SUMMER 2017 STUDENT INTERNSHIPS
My Story: I am a junior Construction Management major at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY. I began my studies at EKU in the nursing program, however while browsing the variety of majors available at the university, I stumbled upon construction management. The Construction Management program was one I had never heard of; however, it has allowed me to step outside my comfort zone while enhancing my leadership skills. Eastern Kentucky University has provided me with substantial opportunities to become a leader in organizations such as Alpha Gamma Delta and the Student Contractors Association. I most recently joined the Kentucky National Guard and hope to do ROTC when I return in the fall.
Where I live: I grew up in Frankfort, Kentucky where I attended the Frankfort Independent, I now am a Junior at Eastern Kentucky University
Why I joined the DBLLC: I became familiar with the Ledcor company and the DBLLC project when representatives came to Eastern Kentucky University to talk about who Ledcor is and what Ledcor does. The representatives caught my attention and when I began applying for internships the next semester, I remembered Ledcor and their promising project.
My Story: I am the proud son of military veterans, both of my parents served in the Airforce. I am currently enrolled at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville where I will be entering my fifth year and completing my Accredited Architecture and Design degree, where I intend to follow a career in Architecture and Design by obtaining my License and eventually starting my own Firm working on residential housing focusing on cheap and sustainable living. I just recently came back from studying abroad in Italy for an entire semester where I was able to travel, see and learn about how Architecture began and how it has transformed over time. I enjoy traveling in different countries and seeing how things are built and learning their history. Besides traveling I love old classic and super sport cars, owning my very own ’81 El Camino, and fishing, which I have been able to see and do a little bit here in KY.
Where I live: I currently live in Knoxville, Tn, where I have lived for the past 14 years and will continue until I finish up my final year of College. While working on this project I live in Lexington and I enjoy the area. I enjoy the architecture of the buildings in Lexington, I especially like the way the bus stops here are designed not only because they show that anything in fact can be designed and practical but they also take inspiration from the great works of Architects, such as Frank Lloyd Wright, etc.
Why I joined the DBLLC: I was first introduced to this project by the inside plant field manager. This summer will mark the third time I have worked on this project, summer and winter of 2016, and summer of 2017.
I started out working with the databases that helped deliver correct and up to date information on the project, this assisted the construction crews and kept the Commonwealth up to date on progress. This year I am able to learn more about what is required to make a project of this size work. This includes looking at 811 tickets and utilize programs such as GeoMRE, 3GIS, and Landbase.
I feel this project will have a great impact on the Commonwealth of Kentucky updating it to the leading edge of technology for communication services. Highspeed data is the future of commerce and the Commonwealth will be there ahead of others.
