KentuckyWired is expected to be a catalyst for growth in job creation, improved health care, and enhanced education.
When completed, the project will:
– Allow businesses to compete globally
– Expand teachers’ resources and help students gain access to knowledge
– Enable health care entities to collaborate
– Improve communication for first responders in emergencies
Design of KentuckyWired began in June 2015. Construction is to be complete by 2020. Eastern Kentucky will be the first priority, and services will commence as construction progresses and as individual segments are completed. Whenever possible, existing infrastructure will be used by partnering with local telecommunications companies, municipalities, and major carriers to reduce construction costs.
