Staff Feature of the Month – March 2020

Name:  Donavon McClure

Role on the Project:  Stakeholder Relations Field Representative

My Story:  Before joining the DBLLC, I spent nearly three years serving as a member of Kentucky State Treasurer Allison Ball’s executive staff as her Scheduler. Along with providing advance work, I oversaw all interns and their projects, assisted in initiative and policy development, among other administrative responsibilities. During this time, Treasurer Ball returned a historic amount of unclaimed property to Kentucky citizens, enhanced Kentucky’s transparency website, had several pieces of bi-partisan legislation passed into law, and became a national leader on financial literacy.

I was born and raised in Southeastern Kentucky. Being raised in both private and public schools in Laurel County, I was fortunate enough to participate in the Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute and Rogers Scholars program. Using my Rogers Scholarship, I was able to attend Union College, in Barbourville, Kentucky, where I earned my degree in history and political science. While attending Union, I served in various student organizations, along with being a member of the men’s soccer team both as a player and a staff member.

I moved to Lexington in March of 2019 to take on the role of Stakeholder Relations Field Representative for the KentuckyWired project. I enjoy spending time with my dog Herman, playing soccer, and continuing to explore our beautiful Commonwealth.

Why I joined the DBLLC:  I joined the DBLLC close to a year ago with the desire to learn a new industry and help better connect the Commonwealth’s access to high-speed internet. The KentuckyWired Project will play a vital role in Kentucky’s future economic growth as well as advancements in educational opportunities.
